San Roque Rescue Society is a Canadian non-profit dedicated to helping the street dogs of Monterrey, Mexico. We can’t save them all, but we do what we can, one dog at a time.
We generally prioritize dogs in the most urgent need: injured, sick, elderly, or otherwise struggling to survive on the street. Mexico is home to millions of street dogs, so we focus our resources where they change an outcome.
First, we take the dog to a local veterinarian for tests and any medical treatment they need. Then we spay or neuter and vaccinate them. From there, we work to find a loving foster home where the dog stays until adopted.
We do not have a physical shelter. All of our dogs that are up for adoption live in foster homes or in boarding facilities.
Yes. When a person or family wants to adopt one of our dogs from another country, we help arrange safe transport and meet the requirements of that specific country. Each country has its own rules and each dog is different, so cross-border adoption depends on the dog’s health and veterinary approval.
We take part in community events such as spay-and-neuter clinics, community vaccination programs, and educational programs that raise awareness about responsible dog ownership.
We rely entirely on donations, which means the number of dogs we can help depends directly on the support we receive.
We have applied for charitable status with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and are currently awaiting approval. Until then, we are unable to issue tax receipts for donations, including any made before approval is granted.
